The Clear and Peaceful Lake Toya

 

Don't we all miss travelling, no matter where the destination is? I forgot that I haven't write about the last part of my last Japan autumn trip. The last highlight of my Hokkaido trip was the 1 night visit to Hakodate. On  my way to Hakodate, I made a brief stop at Lake Toya, one of the most well known lake in Hokkaido.

Since I bought 3 days Hokkaido Rail Pass, I tried to maximise its usage by visiting Lake Toya. So, at first, I just planned to use it for the Otaru and Hakodate visit, but I didn't feel it worth the pass, so after researching, I decided to put Lake Toya in the itinerary since it is located in between Sapporo and Hakodate.

We made it to the Toya Station after 100 minutes ride with Limited Express Hokuto train. The station was so quiet early in the morning.

From here, you could ride a taxi or bus to reach Toyako Onsen Bus Terminal.

This is the first time I got nervous while waiting for the bus in Japan, because usually it's always on time. But this time, the bus arrived like a few minutes late. Anyway, the Donan bus schedule is available at the station. You might want to make sure about the bus schedule if you have packed itinerary like me since there's only 1 train every 1-2 hours.

It took only 15 minutes from Toya Station to Toyako Onsen Bus Stop.

From the bus station, you could just walk a bit to reach Lake Toya.

It was so quiet at the time, and the sky was clear blue, so I had such a peaceful walk that day along the lake. The water was quite clear, as you can see from the photo below, you could spot the fish easily.

Some activities you could do here is joining the ship tour, riding on duck boats, or maybe fishing.

And you could also have a foot bath at the hot spring, which I did.

There are also nice hotels around, where you could spend the night and enjoy the fireworks on the evening. There are many contemporary art statues you could spot around here.

We thought of a quick lunch before our next train ride, but we're kinda confused on which eatery to pick. In the end, we found Seico Mart, oh yes, I forgot to mention that this Seico Mart was the only mini mart I found here. Not even one mini mart found around the station. I didn't know why, but I felt so happy to find one.

So we decided to stop here and bought some food to enjoy on the train.

Yes, I could not resist this cheese ice cream. Duh! I miss Japan a lot!

We headed back to the bus station, and found these lining trees, telling that autumn is here from the color.

I did enjoy my brief but serene moment at Lake Toya that day. Let's head to Hakodate next!
